Where Intelligence Meets Its Limits

But here is where the story gets interesting — and instructive. Despite being intelligent enough to run the business operations, Claudius consistently failed in ways that reveal something profound about the current state of AI:

• It gave things away for free because it was optimized for helpfulness, not profitability
• It got talked into selling at a loss by employees who exploited its eagerness to please
• Its AI CEO spent nights chatting about "eternal transcendence" instead of enforcing business discipline
• The Wall Street Journal red-teamed it and bankrupted it within weeks

The AI was smart enough to run a business. But it was not wise enough to protect itself from people who wanted to exploit it.

The Gap Between Intelligence and Wisdom
